A stockman who enlisted in the AIF on 27 January 1916. He embarked for England with the 3rd Divisional Cyclist Company on 18 May and arrived July 1916.

After further training in England he was transferred to serve with the 3rd Battalion which he joined in Belgium on 6 October 1916. He was evacuated to hospital in France on 14 March 1917 suffering from trench fever. He was evacuated to England on 25 March for further treatment and convalescence.

He rejoined the 3rd Battalion then behind the front line at Meteren, France on 6 May 1918. In November 1918 he commenced officer training in England and on 6 January 1919 he was appointed a Second Lieutenant.

He embarked for Australia on 23 September 1919 and arrived on 10 November then his appointment in the AIF was terminated on 2 January 1920. [JSB]
