A station hand who enlisted in the AIF on 29 August 1914. He embarked for Egypt with the 1st Australian Field Artillery Brigade Ammunition Column on 18 October and arrived on 6 December 1914.

His unit remained in Egypt until March 1916 when it embarked for France, arriving at Marseilles on 27 March and then moving to northern France. On 15 May 1916 he was transferred to the 1st Divisional Ammunition Column. He then joined the 21st Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on 15 September then the 2nd FAB on 26 Feburary 1917.

He was wounded (right shoulder) in action on 10 October 1917 when his unit was near Broodseinde, Belgium. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence. In January 1918 he was reclassified as unfit for front line service.

He embarked for Australia on 10 March 1918 and arrived on 12 May then was discharged from the AIF on 6 August 1918. [JSB]
