A stockman who enlisted in the AIF on 29 November 1916. He embarked for England on 22 December 1916 and arrived on 3 March 1917.

His departure to the front was significantly delayed in England by hospitalisation and extended absences without leave. For one of these a court martial in January 1918 sentenced him to six months' detention.

He joined the 31st Battalion on 13 July 1918 when the battalion was out of the front line at Lahoussoye, France. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 9 August when the battalion was near Vauvillers, France. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

He married Ida Lewis at London on 10 September 1918. For extended absences without leave between November and February 1919, he was sentenced in March by a court martial to 100 days' detention.

He embarked for Australia on 9 August and arrived on 3 October then was discharged from the AIF on 26 October 1919. [JSB]
