A bank clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 4 May 1917. He embarked for Egypt on 22 December 1917 as a reinforcement for the 4th Light Horse Regiment, and arrived on 16 January 1918. He was reallocated to serve in Europe and embarked for England on 17 February and arrived on 4 March 1918.

Following further training in England, he joined the 14th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) in France on 21 August 1918. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 21 October 1918 when the 14th FAB was near Le Cateau in northern France. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

He embarked for Australia on 3 March and arrived on 20 April 1919 and was the discharged from the AIF on 20 July 1919. [JSB]
