Harry Snell was a marine engineer who later worked for Mosman Council. Before the First World War, he was the Australian breast stroke champion. Snell Street, Mosman is named after him. No official service records have been found. However, at the time of his marriage to Carrie Sheard at Honley, Yorkshire, England, he gave his occupation as marine engineer residing at Southampton. It is reasonable to assume that he had been on active service with the merchant navy, hence his inclusion on the Mosman War Memorial. [JSB]
