Born: 23 May 1890

Served as a platoon and company commander with the 4th Battalion, AIF.  He was awarded the Military Cross and Mentioned in Despatches.  He was wounded in action on 18 September 1918 but remained on duty.

The recommendation by his Battalion Commander for the award of a Military Cross follows:

During the period 16/17th September, 1918, to 11th November, 1918, this officer has done consistently brilliant work, particularly in the attack on Hargicourt (Somme) on the morning of September 18th, 1918, when he handled his company with the greatest skill, determination and courage.  He advanced his company (B Company) over 3000 yards including the capture of the village of Hargicourt and the capture of two officers and over 100 other ranks under the greatest difficulties, as owing to the dense fog and heavy smoke barrage, it was almost impossible to maintain necessary direction and touch.  Throughout the operations of this period this Officer showed a fine example of personal bravery and devotion to duty which very materially helped towards our success.
