Member of the Mosman Rowing Club.  His place of residence at time of enlistment unknown but his parents were residents of Leichhardt.

He was wounded in action at Gallipoli on 29 May 1915 while serving with the 13th Battalion.  He re-joined the battalion at Gallipoli on 13 November 1915. 

After the withdrawal from Gallipoli, in March 1916 he joined the 24th Australian Depot Unit of Supply where he remained until attending officer training at Cambridge University between February and May 1917.  After his appointment as a Second Lieutenant, he joined the 34th Battalion, AIF in July 1917.

He died at the 5th Casualty Clearing Station on 5 June 1918 from wounds received six days earlier while commanding a work party near Villers-Bretonneux.  [JSB]
