Son of Arthur and Mary Massey. Arthur Massey was organist and choirmaster at St Clement's Church, Mosman.

Husband of Jeannie Phyllis Massey née Edwards, of "Myee," 131 Raglan Street, Mosman. Father of Verelle May Cole Massey. Managed a picture theatre at Ashfield.

Wounded in action (GSW leg serious), 23 July 1916, Pozières.

Rejoined unit 25 September 1917. Killed in action, Battle of Broodseinde, 4 October 1917. "On Oct 4th we went over about daybreak. We reached the first objective and were standing half in and half out of the German trench waiting for the barrage to lift" - 2647 E. A. Meldrum. "We were standing together after a little advance waiting for the barrage to lift and let us proceed when an enemy machine gun opened fire and a bullet pass through Pte Massey's heart, he died instantly and painlessly. Myself and a comrade laid him down in a shallow trench but there was no time to bury him as we had to continue the advance..." - 3275 Cpl H. J. Watters.
