Son of George Samuel and Louisa Griffiths; husband of Alice Maud Mary Griffiths, father of Dorothy Ormond Griffiths, of "Selhurst," 19 Avenue Road, Mosman.
Had 20 years efficient service in the Australian Militia prior to enlisting.
Lieut. P. O. Griffiths was killed outright by enemy machine gun fire during the operations in front of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 8th August 1918, the wounds having been received in the head. - C.O., 17th (sic) Bn
Captain Griffiths was a well-known Mosman resident, and had a large amount of military service to his credit. He served with the New South Wales military forces in the South African War. At the outbreak of the present war he was called up for duty, and was appointed second in command to Colonel Sands at the Holdsworthy German Concentration Camp, with the rank of major. Subsequently he was appointed to the A.I F. with the rank of lieutenant, and left Sydney in January last with the Sportsmen's Reinforcements for the 19th Battalion. He left England for France on July 25. Previous to being called up for duty he carried on the business of Griffiths and Co., house, land, and estate agents, Avenue-road, Mosman. He leaves a widow and one child. Mrs. Griffiths is a sister of Captain H. W. Soane, V.D., A.D.C. to Brigadier-General Lee.

He had joined the 19th Battalion 11 days before he was killed on 8 August 1918, the first day of the Battle of Amiens which was the start of the "100 Day Offensive" which led to the end of the war on 11 November 1918. [JSB]
