A labourer who enlisted in the AIF on 29 October 1914. He embarked with the 10th Light Horse Regiment (ALH) on 17 February 1915.

The 10th ALH landed at Gallipoli on 21 May but he did not join the unit there until 5 August. He was wounded (face) in action on 29 August by a Turkish bomb (grenade). During that day, the 10th ALH attacked and captured the Turkish front line trench at Hill 60. This was followed by a strong but unsuccessful Turkish counterattack using thousands of bombs. He was evacuated initially to Malta and then to England for further treatment and convalescence.

He embarked for Australia on 17 March 1916 and arrived on 30 April then was discharged from the AIF on 10 August 1916. [JSB]
