A station book keeper who enlisted in the AIF on 8 November 1915. He embarked for England with the 7th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on 11 May and arrived on 10 July 1916.

The 7th FAB arrived at Le Havre France on 30 December 1917 and the next day moved to Bailleul in northern France. He was evacuated to hospital in France on 12 May 1917 with tachycardia, later diagnosed as shell shock. Following his release from hospital he remained at a holding depot in France until March 1918 when he was assessed as no longer fit for front line service. He was then transferred to a holding unit in England where in August 1918 it was decided that he should return to Australia.

He embarked on 9 December 1918 and arrived on 22 January 1919. He continued to received treatment and was admitted on 12 February to the 21st Australian Auxiliary Hospital at Georges Heights, Mosman. He was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 1 May 1919. [JSB]
