A telegraphist who enlisted in the AIF on 20 September 1915. He embarked for England on 8 March and arrived on 6 June 1916. In transit, he completed an instructor's course in Egypt.

Following further training in England he joined the 18th Battalion on 2 October 1916 when it was out of the front line and resting near Zillebeke, Belgium. On 8 February 1917 he was transferred to the 2nd Australian Division Signals Company which was based at Croix du Bac east of Armentieres.

He was evacuated on 19 April to hospital in France and then England suffering from pneumonia. After treatment and convalescence followed by further training in England he rejoined his unit on 15 September 1917 at Reninghelst, Belgium.

He embarked for Australia on 4 July and arrived on 20 August then was discharged from the AIF on 12 October 1919. [JSB]
