A labourer who enlisted in the AIF on 22 July 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 5 October 1915.

He was allotted to the 17th Battalion on 5 February 1916 and arrived with the battalion at Marseilles, France on 23 March. The battalion then moved to northern France. He was wounded (shell shock) in action on 26 July when his unit was in the front line east of Pozieres.

He was evacuated to hospital in Boulogne, France and following treatment was held at the 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot at Etaples. He returned to the 17th Battalion on 10 December.

He was evacuated on 14 January 1917 to hospital suffering from influenza. After treatment and convalescence his fitness level was downgraded and he undertook duties at the 2nd Australian Command Depot. In January 1918, he moved to 1st Australian Command Depot pending his return to Australia due to his "inability to march".

He embarked on 21 April 1918 and arrived on 7 June then was discharged from the AIF on 10 July 1918. [JSB]
