A grazier who enlisted in the AIF on 13 July 1916. He embarked for England on 19 November 1916 and arrived on 29 January 1917.

He joined the 46th Battalion on 19 April 1917 when the unit was in a rest area at Bresle, France. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 25 August 1918 during a very heavy gas bombardment on the front line near Lihons, France the night before. More than 150 men were affected when they had removed their gas masks on their way to a rest area at Longpre near Amiens, because of residual gas in their clothing. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.

He embarked for Australia on 15 January and arrived on 6 March 1919 then was discharged from the AIF on 5 April 1919. [JSB]
